SSAT MONTREAL

WHAT IS THE SSAT?

SSAT stands for Secondary School Admissions Test. It is a standardized test used by many independent high schools as part of their admittance process. When you submit your application, your SSAT score will be part of it. Cycle through some critical SSAT information here.

TEST DATES

Choose a day to take the test. Try to make time for at least two test attempts.

  • There are 8 scheduled tests per academic year, which occur once a month on Saturday morning at 9:00 AM EST. They cost 139 USD.

  • You can re-take the SSAT as many times as you want, and take the best score out of all your attempts. Keep in mind that schools have registration deadlines, so this may limit how many tests you can take.

  • If you’re unable to take a test on the given dates, students can take a flex test, which is held on a different day with a partner association to the SSAT. You can only take one flex test per academic year, and there are no flex test centres in Montreal. Click here for more about flex tests.

LEARNING DISABILITIES

Students with documented disabilities (including ADD/ADHD) can apply for accommodations. These can include extra time, smaller groups, or a calculator. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to make that request, as well as more information on what types of accommodations are available.

MOCK TEST

Montreal SSAT can administer a test identical to the process you will experience on the official day. This is the best way to get a sense of how much preparation you need.

We give the student and family a consultation about what is expected of them, and how the test works. Then, we use the results of this test to establish a game plan for maximizing your score. It is also an extraordinary source of practice; mock tests should be integral to your study plan.

We are located at 620 St. Jean’s Boulevard and have limited availability to do house calls for a travel fee.

200$ — private
250$ — group of 2 students

For larger groups and/or house calls, contact us.

Approximately 3.5 - 4 hours
• One official SSAT practice test
• A consultation to give you absolute clarity on the SSAT's structure and scoring system
• Graded onsite, for you to keep
• A plan of action for how you can continue studying independently, or through tutoring.

TUTORING & CONSULTING

  • Hourly tutoring targets specific sections of the test; this is how you can learn to maximize your score.

  • We also offer consultation sessions, in which we help you apply for accommodations, register for the test, and more.

  • It is common to take a mock test first, as a method of accessing your points of weakness.

  • For tutoring, we normally recommend two-hour sessions.

  • We are located at 620 St. Jean’s Boul, and have a limited availability to do house calls for a travel fee.

80$/hour — private tutoring and/or consulting

100$/hour — group tutoring for 2 students

For larger groups, or other inquiries, please contact us.

BOOKS & RESOURCES

HOCKEY FAMILY ADVISING

SSAT Montreal works closely with students athletes. This section of our website applies specifically to young hockey players applying prep to school. Having a family advisor is truly a hand-in-hand experience; you will be guided into a prep school with a hockey team that you can be proud of. Here are two family advisors we recommend.

SYLVAIN HALLÉ

Sylvain Hallé works with young hockey players in Québec by applying to the right schools for you, booking your visits, inquiring into financial aid, communicating directly with coaches and admissions officers, and much more. We especially recommend Monsieur Hallé to our Françophone students.

They will guide you through the application process, interviews, financial aid, and more. If needed, Hockey Etcetera will train you and attend your games. They also offer creating video footage of the applicant on ice.
